Overview
PasswordGuard is a browser extension developed by Andromiks that stores and manages passwords locally on your device. Your privacy is our top priority. This policy explains how we handle your data.
Data Collection
What we store:
- Passwords and login credentials you choose to save
- Website URLs associated with your saved passwords
- Usernames, names, and notes you add to entries
- Your extension settings and preferences
- Groups/folders you create to organize passwords
What we DO NOT collect:
- We do not collect any personal information
- We do not track your browsing history
- We do not collect analytics or usage data
- We do not collect your IP address or location
- We do not collect any data for advertising purposes
Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local). Your passwords never leave your computer and are never transmitted to any external servers.
Your passwords are encrypted using AES-256-GCM encryption with a device-specific key generated on your computer.
Data Sharing
We do not share your data with anyone.
- No data is sent to our servers (we don't have servers)
- No data is shared with third parties
- No data is sold or transferred for any purpose
- No data is used for advertising or analytics
Data Export
When you export your passwords:
- Encrypted backups are protected with your master password
- CSV exports are unencrypted plain text (you are warned before export)
- Exported files are saved directly to your computer
- We have no access to your exported files
Permissions
PasswordGuard requests the following browser permissions:
- storage: To save your passwords and settings locally
- activeTab: To detect login forms on websites you visit
- tabs: To get the current website URL for autofill matching
- scripting: To show the password icon on login fields
- clipboardWrite: To copy passwords to your clipboard
- contextMenus: To add right-click password generation
- Host permissions: To provide autofill on any website
These permissions are used solely for the extension's password management functionality.
Security
- All passwords are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM
- Optional master password protection with SHA-256 hashing
- Brute-force protection with lockout after failed attempts
- Recovery codes for account recovery
- Session timeout and lock-on-browser-close options
Children's Privacy
PasswordGuard is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy occasionally. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above.

Your Rights
Since all data is stored locally on your device:
- You have full control over your data at all times
- You can export your data anytime using the Backup feature
- You can delete all data using the "Clear All Data" option
- Uninstalling the extension removes all stored data
